Section II - Character Information:
Nanko, "Kim'jael" Tauren-born
What is your character's current occupation?
Paladin of the earthmother, he never took any initiations to become an blood knight of Silvermoon.
What is your character's race?
Blood elf.
What is the reason for your character's interest in the Convocation? If he or she is not an elf, what would lead them to an elven organization?
To have his daugther raised among her own people an learning the history of their people from an better point of life then he had. in exchange of his services as an paladin in exchange for the safety an educational benefits for his daugther.
What does your character look like?
Tanned slightly rough skin with green glowing eyes, dark hair that is simply comb backwards, any armor is practical an highly unmatching with each other, Goatee, hands are rough and have thicker skin then any elf he met.
What does your character feel about the Blood Elves' place in the Horde? What is their opinion of the other races?
Blood elves: bullies of the less fortunate an slightly greedy, but usefull an strategicly intelligent, but majority have a stick up their ass.
Forsaken: They are no better then the scourge, because someone else is holding their leash don't make them anything less then the same monsters that attacked us, at the sound of the attack of their owner, they would rip us all apart.
Orcs: Racists sheeps, they follow the leader with blind loyalty at the mention of honor while swinging their weapons through defenseless civilians. Few have grasped true honor, hard working people that could use a lesson in meditation.
Goblins:...... Greedy, met very few that understood importance of family ties, did not stop them from charging extra anyway.
Pandaran: great babysitters an teachers. honorable people.
Darkspear trolls: honorable, kind, generous. helpfull people.
Taurens: Calm, collected people that value family, honor and nature, while they might respect strenght like orcs, they
respect much more of an individual then just strenght.
Vulpera: crafty people, playfull an kind.
Zandalari Trolls:.... proud, fair, hot tempered. great people that tend to have a stick up their asses about outsiders.
Mag'har orcs: Strong, headstrong, proud people, survivalists that have a strong understanding of family. the better orcs in my opinion.
Highmountain Taurens:.... Like the Taurens in the horde, more loud though.
Nightborn elves: Strong, hard workers to probe themselves, can strongly relate to them in some asspects.
What does your character think of the current state of the Horde? Branching off from this, tell us in brief about their opinion on Thrall's and Garrosh's Horde.
Thrall attempted to make sure all were treated equally an using each people's best qualities for the best of the horde while having the other races to compensate for their short comings. EX: taurens are big, strong an compassionate, Forsakens, small, nimble an ice cold rational thinking progress. both compensate the other.
Garrosh were shortsided an wasted to much potention because of his racial favourism on orcs an taurens, someone that should never should have got the leader position that early before learning compassion an understanding for all in the horde. Sadely not hte worse one we had.
Vol'jin might have been better then Thrall, been by Thrall's side alll those years, learning from the side, the world woudl have looked much different if thrall had put him as the Warchief instead of Garrosh, an had garrosh walking by his side to learn.
Sylvana might been a great general, but i do not trust her more then the lenght i can throw an fully grown Tauren.
What was your character's family like?
After the attack on silvermoon, I was alone an i do not remember my family's standing in the society that well, my parents had many people visiting them of different standings in the society, but i had to fend for myself, were called Kim'jael, "street rat" by all due to my tattered clothes an stealing food. When horde members came to visit the town, i started to steal from them, until i attempted to steal from Taurens, i might been in my late teen years then, but this big, gray muscle bound tauren caught me, the leader of the group took me in, raised me as one of their own. I did escape several times, each time the big grey one found me an took me back. They Namned me Nanko when i could not provide them with any other name then Kim'jael, and they been my family, family of taurens an some trolls that were traveling with them. Now i have my own daugther that i had with an lovely Sin'dorei woman, she sadely died while giving birth, so I raised my daugther, with the knowledge i were given by my tauren family.
What was your character's life like before they chose to join the Convocation? Give us a summary thereof.
Few fragments of memory is still with me, my mother always dressed in purple with either green or red trims, warm smile that loved to spoil me, my father was charismatic, anyone visiting him always seemed to enjoy themselves in his an mothers company. there was something that always had a sweet scent in our home, could never recall what though.
when the scourge attacked, i only remember my parents screaming before something hit my head, then some guards pulled me out from the wreckage, my parents dead from the destroyed building falling down on us, an no one could or would take care of an orphan.
Alot of our people went away with Kael'thas, no place for an orphan to join of course.
When hearing that he joined the legion, founders of the scourge, i felt nothing when the word of the traitors demise reached my ears an those that had joined him.
My temper got better of me several times in northrend, but my adoptive Tauren father made sure to always calm me down, he had turned into an death knight an wanted vengence as well, but taught me that it would be best serven when the servent were cold as ice, i never got to reach inside hte lich kings castle, but i did good work none the less, just wish i could seen him fall myself.
Me and my 'father' were not appriciated, but his brother always made sure that we were on the safest side on every assignment, despite what any orc commander would have us do instead.
I only heard about the purge, they made sure that me and my daugther never got close to it as they were not sure that they could protect us from the madness that occurred there, i knew osme of hte people there, it was sad that it was allowed to happen.
Regarding the conflict on thunder isle, i am sure that both sides were holding back information to not look at bad as it really were, but it is only speculation, i never really had much interest in the Sin'dorie's politics before.
What is your character's skillset, what would they contribute to the Convocation?
I am an miner, working hard were one important lesson my Tauren family taught me, work hard, never waste anything that could be used later an think ahead.
When I saw an goblin contraption I was enthralled, an i know a bit of Enginering as well.
I got trained in how to fight with two handed weapons, one handed an shields, also making an connection to the light an helping out with both offensive, defensive an restoration posts.
I am an light sleeper, always had good eye sight when keeping watch as well.
How does your character's respond to authority?
I can obey an order, as long it is not an stupid or morally questionable one. I have had my back dicipined several times because i let alliance civilians leave instead of killing htem in thier homes, or refused attacking an outpost that had not been scouted out first.
I will question Officers that do not seem to know what they are doing, or that are clearly lacking any morals just to personaly gain something at the cost of soldiers.
If you want braindead soldiers, hire orcs an scream for blood an honor before telling them to do something an then scream it again after.
you want someone thinking on their feet, i am your Soldier.
Section III – Writing
Write a short text, around 300-400 words on one of the following questions:
1) Should the Light be allowed to play a role in Sin’dorei society again following the Sunwell’s restoration?
Personally i, Nanko Tauren-born think it should be the Individual's choice to decide if they want it to play a role in their life, but i do not think that it should Be in any political choices regarding the Sin'dorei's societies growth. Odd from an Palain perhaps, but it should not be forced, how could they embrace it if they do not have the choice to discover it themselves?
I lived without the light for majority of my life, an i do not belive that I would been the same if i had embraced it earlier.
So i think that it is something some People might need more then others in their lives to function or find a pourpose that fulfills them, but it should be their choice if to embrace the light, same as some choose to embrace the power of Fel energies, or those that choose to embrace the elemental powers of druidism or shamanism, the arcance powers.
There is no one road that is right for everyone, It is a personal responsibility to choose what is right for themselves, but i do not think that anyone in a political power should use their personal belif in any political decision that affect to many people that might not share that belif with them.
Otherwise it might end with an army of light wielding sentinals that will purge Silvermoon of all warlocks, mages, druids an shamans, because their view is not right with thiers.
It might seem like an silly comparison, but look at garrosh, dismissing everyone in the horde that did not share his view of a strong Horde. that same thing could happen with people that choose to make the light into an standard role in the Society of the Sin'dorei.
2) In light of the Purge of Dalaran, what should Quel'thalas’ course be in regards to relations with the Kirin Tor?
Should Quel'thalas judge the entire Kirin tor the way Jaina judged all elves in Dalaran for hte action of a few? they we would not be any better then them, i think they should attempt to mend bridges, be the bigger person an use the past that have happened to ensure that such travesty can never happen to the Sin'dorei people, nor anyone else that is visiting Dalaran ever again.
3) Taking into account the acquisition of part of the Thunder King’s arsenal by the Sunreavers, to what extent do you feel it is still necessary of The Sin'dorei to delve into darker magics?
We already have warlocks and poeple delve into the differnt branches of fel energies, but we clearly put a stop at the stop at void magic, an banishing usefull people that became Ren'dorei's. I think that our people have decided what dark magics are acceptable already an which are not, even if it cost us more of our people that got into the hands of others that clearly see no problem of having them by their sides, even as they have people serving the light on their side.
I would rather have seen the Ren'dorei by our side then by the alliance, but it was not my choice to make sadely.
4) Should powerful artifacts be preserved as a record of history, or put to use in forging the future of those who acquire them? If either, why?
why make the choice between them, it sounds rather.... what is the word i am looking for. Naive.
If an artifact is found, of course it should be recorded that it been found, an updated about it's current state of functionality an design to compare to the historical notes, maybe even drawing a new picture of it to compare if there are any old ones. but once that is done, it should be put to use, preferably by the person that found it, IF the person are competent to use it, otherwise if one would now belive in fate, were that specific person meant to find it if not also use it to it's best abilities? after a while, come back to the preservation commity, an give notes on things that happened, giving them updates both oraly and writen so that people in the future that might have the weapon would have something to read up on an learn from the predacessor.
5) With the knowledge that the Wretched may never be cured of their ailment, what would be the most morally sound course of action in handling them?
Put them into a deep magical sleep, because if a cure would appear or be discovered, then we could cure them. If we do not find a cure, then atleast they are out of the way an not causing troubles with the hope for the people that there might be a chance for them to see their loves ones restored once again.
Application: Nanko Tauren-born
Re: Application: Nanko Tauren-born
Hello Nanko,
First off, thank you for your application. Having read through it, it's my current take that due to issues relating to lore inconsistencies in the character's backstory, the general concept and attitude expressed not gelling very well with the guild and a few problems with the form I do not believe your character would be a good fit with the Convocation and can deny the application. The reasons for this and advice if you would like to rewrite and try again follows:
1. The Backstory - While we're not opposed to inventive concepts and the core idea of a fish out of water who's more in tune with one of the other cultures in the Horde than his own isn't off-base, the specifics of the timeline don't match up. We've spoken about this in detail in PM, but as there are too many small issues to name, a wholesale rewrite based on the timeline would do much to clean up the story. I would go expansion by expansion, starting with Before the Fall and keep it to a broad overview, as well as a name change. Wowpedia and the various guides on the official forums' roleplaying board go a long way and are a more accessible alternative to the tons of quests you'd otherwise have to go through. WoW Roleplay is collaborative and it's important that we all operate from the same positions. If you're not sure that something is in keeping with the lore, it's best to exclude it or check for information.
2. Anecdotes - Anecdotes and personal experiences are a big part of any character, but while sharing them and building off of them is a lot of fun in roleplay, they don't tell us much about the broad strokes of how the character would work and his place in the Convocation. The in-character response to the questions is an interesting approach, especially when it comes to the open-ended essay ones, but need some cleaning up to line up with a redone backstory and to better flow as text.
3. Formatting - the easiest thing to sort, using bold for the questions, different sizes to delineate the questions, punctuation and the like. Perfect English is far from a requirement, we all make mistakes here and there, but that sort of thing makes for an easier read and shows effort, which is important given the committment a guild would be.
4. Motivation - As we've talked about elsewhere, the most important thing you need to decide before you begin a rewrite is if this is really the right place for this character and concept. The Convocation are heavily focused on exclusively blood elf problems and more often than not have had rather rigid power dynamics. A character outside of that context that chafes against authority, even if all the above are solved, may end up being too different and better catered to elsewhere. I'd recommend both Hand of the Titans and Wayward Vagrants for the concept.
As an additional note, while we're not per se closed to recruitment right now, we're at time of writing in the wrap-up of our major Battle for Azeroth storylines, making it a poor jumping on point that would not give any newly arrived character not directly tied with it too much to do. Whatever you choose, thank you for taking your time and have a nice day.
